My AMC - Car Enthusiast

It all started back on 1983 when I was 15 years old just about to get my drivers license learners permit.

For years, I've been riding my bike to school, after school and on weekends.  I was a cyclists tracking hundreds of miles a week but now it was time for my first car.

My grandfather was helping me choose a vehicle based on the money I had saved working over the past few years.   His initial thought was  a 71 Ford Maverick with a 302.

We were at my Aunt's house for dinner and she mentioned she was getting rid of her car.   This car was given to her by a friend primer grey needing a lot of work.   I was listening but not paying attention until I looked out the window and saw her.

1969 AMC Javelin SST - all primer sort of ratty but a hot rod in her own right.   We walked outside to hear it run and boy did she sound good.  I was desperately trying to hold back my feelings but the smile I could not hide from my Aunt.  She said we could have her for $500.

He was struggling with the decision because he was a guys/guy but then considering how I would handle a hot rod being a teenager.   Of course, I begged him telling him whatever he needed to hear to agree.  In the end I he was probably right and we should of gone with the Ford Maverick.   My Javelin was so race worthy I ended up with more than a handful of tickets and a suspended license.

He did and my love for AMC cars started.  Since my 69 Javelin SST, I've had a 72 Gremlin (cool car) and 74 Matador (huge back seat) and now my 69 AMX.

I between those two cars I had a 67 Mercury Cougar 351W auto, a 72 Pontiac Trans Am, 77 Pontiac Trans Am (smokey special), a 65 Chevy, 73 Mailbu, 65 C10 Fleetside and bunch of other cars that do not count as a hot rod or muscle car.

My 69 AMX won't be the last muscle car to join our family.   Has anyone driven the new Dodge Charger Hellcat pumping out over 700 horsepower?
